Tucking away the new camper van

Though it seems like we just got her out (which we actually did, seeing we only picked her up 6 weeks ago), alas, it is time to winterize the camper van and tuck it away for the long winter. We have talked about potentially driving it over Christmas to OKC, but without four-wheel drive, that seems a bit iffy. But we will play it by ear, and if it is a particularly mild season, that is a possibility.

But for now we completed all of the winterizing tasks, which includes removing all liquids, pumping anti-freeze liquid through all of the plumbing, plugging in the battery charger, and tucking it under the shop eaves. We also tuck dozens of dryer sheets in and under both campers to discourage mice.

While we were in there we took a few minutes to install some faux wood patterned peel-and-stick wallpaper on the stainless steel fridge and freezer. We are pretty much ready to roll next year!

I openly admit my mild obsession with faux wood anything. This peel-and-stick wallpaper was a dream to apply, both because peel-and-stick is so easy to work with, but also because the fridge and freezer doors have a thin black trim, so Steve was able to trim and then tuck the rough edges behind the trim.

It’s getting really cozy in here!

This pillow came from another one of my new obsessions, an Internet company called Spoonflower. They have hundreds of different patterns, each sourced from various artists and which are available in an array of different color palettes (like traditional wallpaper in wallpaper books.) The difference is that once you pick a pattern you can have it printed on demand (meaning, specifically for your order in a small batch) on your choice of dozens of different types of fabrics (cottons, twills, chiffons, jerseys) and/or different types of wallpapers (prepasted, peel-and-stick, etc.) and/or on premade items like this pillow (as well as curtains, tablecloths, etc.) This is one of the most brilliant ideas I have ever heard of. For a few bucks they will send you samples, then you place your order and they print it for your order. The whole process takes less than 2 weeks. I fell in love with this pattern because of its “stained glass” look and its colors that complement (but aren’t too “matchy-matchy”) with our other interior choices. I had them make up this pillow, and then I got fabric to make a new curtain for behind the bathroom door and a mini skirt for the bathroom corner sink. It’s also the same place I ordered the faux wood used on the fridge.

This Glacier print on canvas is what inspired my color palette for the van.

I love having an excuse to buy these “Colonial” style rugs.

Another piece of art I purchased for the camper. This is an original watercolor we picked up while on the Oregon coast last month.

Yet another use of peel-and-stick wallpaper sourced from Spoonflower - I cut out individual flowers from a bold design and reassembled them to make a little pattern on the bathroom wall. It turned out so nice, I think I will add more over the sink. Super easy to do and 100% movable/removable.

You’ll have to pardon all of the pedding and towels I have stacked up in the little bathroom, but it is a handy storage area while driving!

Below are the two wallpapers I used to source the shapes.

Can’t wait for next year!
