Tree pruning begins

February is the time for fruit tree pruning, one of Montana and Elijah’s favorite chores. They are starting on the stand of very large, very old apple trees in the back pasture. Trying to revive them has been a multi-year (/forever) project.

Of course the donkeys (and inevitable parade of poultry) have to come check out what’s going on in their field.

Steve also used today as an opportunity to chainsaw dead limbs off of some of the front cherry trees. We now have to wait for a windless day to have a bonfire to dispose of the mess these projects create (before mowing season starts).

What an old, gnarly cherry tree! Surprisingly, it still produces delicious fruit.
