This is what Cold looks like

Oh-so bundled up.

Despite being dangerously close to the Canadian border, it just does not get this cold up here very often. We knew this Arctic Blast was headed our way, and it has delivered! Thankfully, the sun has hung around to make it all totally bearable (though Steve keeping the wood burning stove stoked doesn’t hurt either.)

The skiiers are loving this after waiting for snow for too long this year. Even sub-zero temperaturs can’t keep them off this sunny little mountain.

Steve temporarily disconnected by outdoor faucet’s hose connection, and I forgot to bring a bucket of water from inside before visiting the coop today. We use two heated dog bowls for the chicken water, so this trick should buy me some time.

When even the donkey’s heated water tank freezes over.

Even in (or maybe Especially in) these frigid conditions, I’m still dreaming of next year’s garden.

I wonder if the pear and apple espalier trees along the inside of the garden fence will still be alive in the spring!

Today’s long cold walk to the mailbox.

Despite her age and associated aches, pains, and problems, Serena dog still loves sitting outside no matter what the weather. Here she is waiting for me to come back from my chores. I’m almost surprised she’s not laying right in the snow!

This animal has the right idea (extra points if you can tell the decorative sheepskin throw apart from the actual animal.)

Keep that fire going today, Steve! We are replacing this old stove and surround next summer with a Franklin-style enameled stove (vertical, more old-fashioned, “canister” style). We use compressed pellet logs in this one (handier and cleaner than firewood, though sometimes a little tricky to get going), but the new stove will be standard pellet.
