Seed starting starts

I have not had great success starting plants from seed in the past. I really prefer to just “sow in place” and let the magic happen from there.

At the other house I tried to start seeds one year down in the basement, and I remember mixed germination rates and no (or at least not many) surviving seedlings by the time things were ready to plant. We also had the little greenhouse-ish garden shed at the other house, and again, not any better luck out there. So now that we have our cute Costco greenhouse here, we thought we would give it another try!

Steve has the lights set up on a timer, and some of the seeds have a heated under-mat for extra warmth. It was exhausting enough planting 6 flats of the tiniest seeds you’ve ever seen this afternoon (think poppy seed-size), and I’m really not holding my breath in terms of any of them taking hold. But one thing we love around here is running experiments, and so we are giving this a go!

Plus the greenhouse looks extra cool at night (the lights run until midnight).
