Overdue for haircuts
We knew it was coming - the long overdue shearing of the shaggy goats. The reluctance was understandable- shearing animals is scary! But it was a beautiful spring day, and Sammy was already starting to self-shed some of his layers. And poor Tex was just a curly mop, of course.
Steve and Elijah held them down, and with two holders they didn’t really squirm. They almost seemed to know what was coming, even though they are only a year old.
Montana manned the special shear clippers and also trim scissors. It was fascinating to watch. She had to work through the layers, especially with little Tex. It looked like hard work! Right at the end, unfortunately Montana got herself with the super sharp pruning shears while doing Tex’s nails and ended up at Urgent Care with 5 stitches in her thumb (and a brand new tetanus shot!)
Walker wasn’t in as dire a need as the other two, so we will catch his haircut on a future weekend.
Sammy took his haircut standing up.
We only did Sammy’s upper half, so he still has some curly “socks”.
Sammie does not know what to think about his shaggy haircut.
Oh, Walker, you’re next in a few weeks!
Beekeeper selfie doing a little hive work while they were doing the hard work.
Tex was such a good boy, just laying down while Montana worked her way around.
Tex escaping to freedom after his “hair cut”
Beyond difficult to believe this can be cleaned, combed, and ultimately spun into actual yarn!
As usual I was on Clean Up Duty. The smaller bag contains the fleece we removed from Sammie; the bag to the right is what got off of Tex!!!
Ouch! 5 stitches on the thumb.
