Baby tree color

With fall falling fast, we are enjoying the autumn colors on some of our younger trees that we have been nurturing. We have felt a little guilty because we did not continue our watering regimen in September - we just ran out of water wagon steam. But the trees seem to be doing fine, and even though they are just 1 or 2 years old, they all tried to give us a little fall color. The 20-or so mature apple trees haven’t quite started changing yet, but we will keep our eyes on them in the coming weeks.

The magnolia in front of the house with the red maples and young willows in the background. These will really fill in nice over the next few years.

This crabapple in the rock bed in front of the house is one of the first trees we added two years ago, and it just got its first little fruits.

The river birches along the side of the shop (behind the dog kennel) are hanging in there. They never fully filled out this year, but it was their first. So fingers crossed for next year's growth.

Most of the lilacs near the river birches are doing okay. I had to cover them with aviary netting to protect them from the greedy nighttime deer.

Big old pear tree by the fire pit.  I cannot wait to burn all of those limbs encircling the pit - the annual fire ban should be lifted soon.

The asparagus ferns are finally changing color - soon they will grow pretty little red berries before hibernating until next season.

Not a lot of color change yet on the big apples.

The goats demanded I photograph them while I was in the area.

Later afternoon sky

We stopped by a local orchard for some fresh cinnamon-pumpkin donuts and a few pumpkins for the porch, and snagged a box of Fuji's to take home and roast up into apple butter. A perfect fall day!
