The greenhouse is done!

We were all prepared to pitch in and help assemble the greenhouse kit we purchased from Costco earlier this year. After all, that is how we built the garden shed, the garden fence, the garden beds, etc.

But this new Retired Steve took the project on by himself and really enjoyed it. He did it all himself from beginning to end, and it really did turn out fantastic! The perfect little touch to the garden. I moved half of the assembled “stuff” from the garden shed to the greenhouse. Montana is going to experiment with starting seeds next year, so we have some additional supplies to assemble before then. For now I just need to figure out when/how we can move the two beehives from the side of the pump house to the back of the greenhouse!

The finished product!

Steve used the bed of his truck as his mobile construction supply headquarters.

The poly windows were actually one of the hardest parts. They had to be manually sealed at the top and bottom with a special tape before each could be inserted and secured. The outer sides are UV-protected, and I can attest that they generate some serious warmth inside.

So much sealing!

The assembler admiring his work and wondering whether this top vent will really operate as designed. There is a fluid inside of the hinge unit that automatically raises and lowers the vent depending on the inside temperature. At this stage it was just a concept, but I can now attest that we have confirmed - it really works that way!

The outside assembly process was spread out over three days. Each night we had to re-attach the garden fence across the front of the building to keep the night-time deer out. Later you will see we restapled it to the sides of the building.

We used an old rubber garden twist-tie to temperarily secure the netting.

Before, all we had was this little garden shed (and it was full to the brim, right to the doors.

Now it is all organized with the items we actually use in the garden beds.

While he was here, Steve had to fiddle with this door a little. We will also need to (re)seal both buildings before winter.

The (re)stapled fence.

I have had this little plaque for three decades - it says "A Dedicated Gardner Dwells Within". I have not always lived up to that description, but it definitely fits these days!

Job well done, Steve!
