Sad news while we were gone
While we were en route to pick up the bike in Minnesota, poor little CeCe had to be put to sleep. This horrible task fell on poor Montana, who not too long ago had to go through this with her own cat. Little CeCe had been getting even more finicky than usual about eating lately and was acting a little strange. She has had long-time thyroid-related problems for which she took 2x daily meds. But honestly, we weren’t particularly concerned when we left.
But once we were on the road, Montana gave CeCe a closer inspection and saw she had a cut on her chin that was infected. We all figured that was the reason she was eating especially poorly lately. Montana took her to the vet to check it out. More tests revealed a whole host of internal problems, including kidney failure.
Montana wanted to be with her at the end, which must have been so hard. And hard on Steve also, who is always there at the end.
Oh, these crazy pets really get to us! CeCe was the world’s most “chill” cat ever, very quiet (except at evening snacktime when she tended to ROAR), very relaxed around the dogs and other cats, often just sitting on the front porch or grass during the day, always sitting on Steve’s lap when we watched TV at night. We got her from the rescue (originally to be a barn cat) along with Chester, but CeCe never took to the rugged outdoor cat life. Her original name from the shelter was “Cookies & Cream” because of her coloring, aptly named, but too long. A few years ago our vet (after treating her for YEARS) realized CeCe was actually a boy cat, but we never quite adjusted our pronouns, occasionally going with “he-she” or “she-he”, but mostly just reverting to she.
Chester is now our sole cat. It’s been since Montana was a tiny baby that we have been a one-cat family, but we have pledged - no more indoor cats! RIP CeCe, you were a good cat!
