Fun little rummy game
I picked up a game called Five Crowns over the holidays. It’s a 2-deck rummy variation, with 5 suits instead of 4. You play 11 hands, starting with 3 cards, then 4, 5, all the way to 13. There are 4 joker wild cards, plus the card of each round (the number of cards that were dealt) is also wild, and there is no limit to how many cards can make up a set. You just have to use them all and have a discard. When a player gets a full rummy, the other players get one more hand to try to better their scores. Points are bad in this game, so the rummy player gets zero, and everyone else gets the points for the cards left in their hands that don't fit in 3+ card sets or runs (you don’t play on the other players’ hands in this version.)
Because of the size of the deck and the need for constant reshuffling before each deal, we had to invest in an automatic card shuffler. It may have been the most fun part of the entire game!
