First fire of the year

The fire ban was released last week, and since Wednesday was fairly wind-free and the next few days were expected to be rainy, there was only one thing to do: have a fire!

We have quite a mess of miscellaneous branches of all sizes, shapes, and ages ready to burn at the front fire pit. We made a pretty good dent in the piles. Steve brought out some hot cider, and Elijah bought some hot dogs for sustenance, too. So now we will hunker down for a few days of badly needed rain.

This is the kind of scrappy miscellaneous wood we are burning this year. We have/had about 5x this pile, so we made a good dent in it.
