Decorating details

Pretty quiet around here as we work on plans and preparations for spring work. So many lists and supply orders.

But in this “in-between” time, I realized there were a few little decorating details from this winter that I neglected to capture.

First, the gorgeous peacock-painted office/library is a huge hit. One of the things we were waiting on was the ceiling fixture. We have a wonderful antique light dealer in town and never miss up a chance to give them some business. This is a reproduction, but the peacock feather theme is picked up in the stained glass shades. Pro tip: we learned that these type of fixtures are imminently easier to balance when there are an even number of bulbs. Who knew?

While we were at the lighting store, this crazy little framed advertisement caught my eye: “Polly put the kettle on, we’ll all make JELL-O”. Plus the pewter. I mean, come on, irresistible!

I passed it up that day, but Steve returned to buy it as a 60th birthday gift. It’s hanging by our coffee bar.

And one other little artwork gem that Steve also went back for as another birthday surprise, this time to Coeur d’Alene, was this tiny painting of an American Indian and his horse. So beautifully and uniquely matted, I’m not even sure how many layers - maybe 10? Perfect next to the duck painting in our reading nook, purchased at the same gallery.

Often it’s the little things!
